Launch the trainer first, then launch the Game and then Press F1 at the Main Menu.
Listen for "Activated".

Numpad 4: Add 1000 Experience
Numpad 5: Add 10 Ability Points
Numpad 6: Add 10 Spell Points

before you try to activate them.  (Press 'I' on the keyboard).
